SEOUL - 45-year-old Korean Won-jun Choi has won a PBA tournament for the second time in his career. In the final, he was the better of Turk Birol Uymaz 4-2 with a superb average of 2,400. Won-jun Choi, married and father of two daughters, had to wait 1539 days for another PBA win. In the 2019/20 season, he won his first tournament in the final against Gyeong seop Jung, the third event since the start of the PBA when David Martinez stood on the podium for the first time.
Won-jun Choi reached the final against Birol Uymaz in a thriller against Sung-won Choi that was decided in the 7th set and after 156 minutes. Then Won-jun Choi was given two hours of rest to play the final with Uymaz. The Turk had defeated Byeong-chan Noh 4-2 in the semi-final.
So the top prize of 72,000 euros was for Won -jun Choi. Korean Dong-Koong Kang won the prize of 4 million Korean won for the highest average, 2.812.
Most Spaniards and Turks did not play their best tournament and were eliminated in the first two or three rounds. The best European was Birol Uymaz. David Martinez, Semih Sayginer, Antonio Montes made it to the round with the best 32 where they were eliminated.
The next PBA tour, High1Resort, is from November 24 to 30, while the ladies in the LPBA play from November 22 to 29.
Javier Palazón remains the No 1 ranked player ahead of David Martinez, Semih Sayginer, Sung-won Choi, Won-jun Choi, Birol Uymaz, Lütfi Cenet, Sang-dae Lee, Yusuke Mori and Jae-guen Kim. The next Europeans are David Zapata and Eddy Leppens in 15th place. Antonio Montes and Savas Bulut are in shared 40th place. Dani Sánchez is in position 63, Murat Naci Coklu in 68.
