LEON - The proud father, the proud Paola and even the little Hernandez junior celebrated the success of Alain after the 24-year-old Mexican from El Paso has been crowned as the winner of the biggest three-cushion tournament in Mexico this week. The traditional national billiards event, with 276 participants, was won by Alain Hernandez in the final against the Colombian Robinson Morales (30-20).

The tournament was played for the sixteenth time in a row, always in the month of January in the Club Diamante in Leon. The system is simple: the participants play on handicap in the preliminaries as well as in the final rounds.

The Masters play to thirty caroms, the first category to 27, the 2nd to 25, the 3rd and players under 17 to 23 points. The inscription is open for players from all countries.

Two years ago Rodolfo Covarrubias won, Miguel Almaraz was the best last year and this year Alain Hernandez, who defeated in the eighth finals Mario Tulio Marquez (30-19), in the quarterfinals Raymundo Munoz (30-13), in the semi-final Carlos Lopez (30-8) and in the final Colombian Robinson Morales (30-20).

Alain Hernandez was one of the young Mexican talents not so long time ago, who tried to gain experience in international tournaments. He came to Sluiskil with Alan Campos Duarte, where he played the international youth tournament that was held during the World Cups. There he belonged to the best players. Hernandez and Campos battled with Glenn Hoffman, Sameh Sidhom and amongst others HaengJik Kim for the main prizes.

Like all Mexican playerss Hernandez is suffering now under the suspension that the UMB has imposed to his country due to the cancellation of the World Cup in 2011.

The Mexican three cushion circuit, which consists of hundreds of players, therefore came flocking to the tournament in Leon. Alain Hernandez pulled out the biggest win of his career so far.
