The Belgian Eddy Leppens was the better of Can Capak in the first round

WROCLAW - The first shifting in the three cushion event at the World Games in Wroclaw has not yielded real surprises. All favourites survived the first round of the tournament with sixteen players. Dani Sánchez was the best of eight winners in a 14-innings match, followed by Hugo Patino and Quyet Chien Tran. On the second day, Marco Zanetti, Pedro Piedrabuena, Eddy Leppens and Dick Jaspers were the winners.

The matches for the quarter finals on Friday are:
10.00: Dani Sánchez-Hugo Patino
12.30: Quyet Chien Tran-Sameh Sidhom
15.00: Marco Zanetti-Pedro Piedrabuena
17.30: Dick Jaspers-Eddy Leppens.

Dick Jaspers had a tough opponent facing another former world champion, the Japanese Ryuji Umeda, who went along with the Dutchman until 27-27. Then Jaspers took the match with runs of seven and six to finish 40-32 in 25 innings.

Marco Zanetti defeated Kostas Kokkoris after he made the gap with with a run of thirteen, the highest of the first round (40-25 in 20). Pedro Piedrabuena had a walk-over against the Polish substitute Sniegocki (40-10 in 33 innings and Eddy Leppens defeated the Turk Can Capak 40-27 in 26.
