VIENNA - For the first time in his career, Arnim Kahofer has won the Austrian title in three cushion. 39-year-old allround player defeated Georg Schmied in the final match 40-37 in 27 innings. ,,I am very happy with this victory and like to thank my fans in the world for the congratulations,'' said Kahofer on the night of his victory.

Two of the favorites, the title holder Andreas Efler and former champion Andreas Kronlachner, were beaten in the semi-finals. Gerhard Kostistansky and Franz Stenzel couldn't make it to the semi-finals.

Arnim Kahofer about the finale: ,,It was a really nice final with a lot of tension. Georg Schmied gave me a tough fight. I was leading 10-0 in three innings when he made a run of 10. The game was equal for both until the 19th inning, 31-27 for me. Then I missed three times relatively easy shots. He took the lead in the 24 inning with 35-34, but then I finished the match with four and two: 40-37 in 27 innings.''

The new champion worked a long time for this success. ,,And now I won all my matches, 1.36 general average, 2.000 was my best match and a high run of 10.''

,,It was not easy, coming from the classic disciplines (which I'm still playing) and work forward to the Austrian three cushion top. But finally I succeded!''

The final result:

1 Arnim Kahofer, 1.363-10
2 Georg Schmied, 0.983-10
3 Andreas Efler, 1.310-9
4 Andreas Kronlachner, 1.138-8
5 Andreas Horvath, 1.212-6
6 Herbert Szivacz, 1.043-13
7 Gerhard Kostistansky, 0.992-7
8 Franz Stenzel, 0764-8.
