Gerwin Valentijn, the best winner in the Biljart Express team

LEUVEN/ZELE/LIER - The 8-0 victory for Biljart Express in the high class match against Quality was a hard knock-out for Zele's frontrunner. On the fourth day of the Belgian league, BC Deurne and De Goeie Queue came out with a half misstep in the matches against KBC Eeklose and KBC Zanzibar (4-4). Mister 100 returns to the top four thanks to an excellent victory over Op de Meir (7-1). In the highest Belgian division there is still little separation on top of the ranking. Six teams form the upper part with a difference of only two match points. BC Deurne stays on top with seven points out of four, De Goeie Queue, Mister 100 and Quality Zele are just one point down.

The most remarkable this week were the performances of Mister 100 Lier and BC Biljart Express. The Ceulemans team, even without its number one Peter Ceulemans, who was taken to hospital with a intestines infection, was outstanding in the away match in the BC Op de Meir arena. Bart and Koen Ceulemans, the substitute who shone with 1.312 of average, were the better of Roland Uijtdewillegen and Ivan Stitschinsky. Kurt and Raymond Ceulemans showed up with fascinating matches against Eddy Leppens and Barry van Beers. The 'godfather', Raymond, took the win in the final sprint against Van Beers (50-46 in 47). And when the battle was still open at both tables (and Peter Ceulemans monitored the live scores in his bed), Kurt made a strong come-back against Leppens, resulting in a 50-50 in 37.

BC Deurne unexpectedly ran into severe opposition in the away match against KBC Eeklo, the number last on the ranking. At the break, the Eeklo team led after wins of Christiaan de Mil and Willem Jansen over Jean van Erp and Ludo Dielis. Jef Philipoom soon made the gap to Freddy Staelens (50-31 in 36), but Glenn Hofman needed a little luck when the score was 50-48. Steven van Acker scored from the break, but missed the equalizer for 5-3 by a millimetre.

BC Biljart Express was the stunt team on this competition day. With an 8-0 win in the luggage, the Turnhout team returned home. Martin Spoormans and Guy van Litsenborg were the perfect starters against Jeffrey Jorissen and Mathieu Vlerick. Gerwin Valentijn, best man with 1.785, was a way too strong for Peter De Backer after the break (50-27 in 28) and Frans van Kuyk got through by the skin of one teeth against Eddy Merckx (50-49 in 34).

Zanzibar, with a poor start in this competition, and The Good Queue shared the points in Leuven. Frédéric Caudron had a walk-over against Roland Forthomme (50-19 in 19), Wesley de Jaeger defeated Andy de Bondt (42-30 in 34), but Jerry Hermans by one point before the break vs Jimmy Mues and Jean Paul de Bruijn had an off-day against Kenny Miatton. The young Belgian won 50-36 in 40.

BC De Witte Molen, with Pierre Soumagne on his best (42-13 in 21 against Rudy Persyn), took its first victory in the match with the number last, defeating the second team of Mister 100 5-3. KBC Kortrijkse and BC Herentals played a draw with Martin Horn and Ronny Brants in a good form, Horn with 2.272, Brants with 2.083.

The ranking on top:
1 BC Deurne 7 points
2, 3 and 4 De Goeie Queue, Mister 100 and Quality 6 points
5 and 6 Biljart Express and Herentals 5 points.
