KREFELD - The German Cup final, which is played every year in the last part of August, was won by Bergisch Gladbach. The top team, led by Martin Horn, took victory in the final, was played in Krefeld, 6-2 against Bottrop.
Bergisch Gladbach played with Martin Horn, Dave Christiani, Markus Dömer and Thomas Horcher. The cup win gives the right to participate in the European preliminaries. Bergisch was the runner-up in the bundesliga in the past two years.
Bergisch Gladbach, that also has Torbjörn Blomdahl under contract, has strengthened the team with a few well-known players this summer: Dave Christiani, Nikos Polychronopoulos and Glenn Hofman. The team wants to have a shot at the title.
Bergisch won the cup by beating GT Buer in the semi-finals. The only winner for GT Buer was Stefan Galla against Markus Dömer. Martin Horn defeated Stefan Hetzel 40-23 in 36 innings, Dave Christiani bested Uwe Kerls 40-35 in 35 and Thomas Horcher took victory against Markus Galla: 40-34 in 35.
In the second semifinal Bottrop defeated Velbert 7-1.
