SOISSONS - Bernard Villiers has shone with a great victory in a national one cushion tournament in Soissons this weekend. He took the overall win in the final against Nicolas Gérassimopoulos and played the second best average ever in France: 15.78 (600 caroms in 38 innings). Alain Remond did slightly better in Chartres in 2010 with 16.00. Villiers was on his best mainly on the final day of the tournament when he finished his last races over 120 points in the semi-final and the final in three and four innings.

He previously won in ten innings over Jean-Marie Lacombe, nine against Patrick Dupont (the most exciting of his five matches, 120-109), in twelve against his teammate Jean-Francois Florent, in the semifinals in three against Johann Girard and in the final in four innings against Nicolas Gérassimopoulos from Andernos: 120-20.

The overall winner closed the final with the highest tournament run: 77 His performance can be seen as a promising run-up to the World champlionship one cushion that will be hold in Saint Brevin les Pins, France, from 2 to October 5. Nicolas Gérassimopoulos, the number two, defends the Greek colors at the WC in Saint Brevin. The Andernos player recorded 7.57 in Soissons after victories in the group against Jean-Marie Formont and Bernard Baudoin and his best performance in the quarterfinals against Alain Remond in fourteen innings (120-104).

Johann Petit and Johan Girard complete the podium complete with averages of 8.33 and 7.80. Alain Remond finished 10.42 overall.
The second national one cushion tournament is in Chartres in the weekend of November 23.
