Sergio Jimenez outplayed the former Europese junior champion Antonio Montes

MADRID - Fifteen of the sixteen seeded players at the Spanish Grand Prix, the Trofeo Cominidad de Madrid, have qualified for the next round of the main tournament. Javier Palazón and Sergio Jimenez were the best winners on the first knock-out day: 40 in 18 innings. Benito Plaza, one of the players who survived the qualifications, knocked out Ricardo Garcia Alarcon, one of the seeded players 40-35 in 29 innings.

The tournament continues today, Saturday, at 10.00 with the first part of the eighth finals. Ruben Legazpi plays against David Martinez, Jose Maria Mas against Alfonso Legazpi, Carlos Crespo faces David Zapata, Dani Sánchez meets Esteve Mata and Javier Palazón plays against Jaime Sánchez.

Most notable matches on the first day were Sergio Jimenez' victory over Antonio Montes (40-32 in 18) and Javier Palazón who defeated Francisco Rodriguez (40-13 in 18, run 10). Raul Cuenca won the shoot-out after the draw against Alberto Sintas (40-40 in 48).

Dani Sánchez defeated Alberto Gomez 40-11 in 22, Carlos Crespo was a way too strong for Jose Manuel Bravo (40-15 in 23). Alfonso Legazpi had the better final sprint against Valentin Andaluz with 40-39 in 37.
