The American champion Pedro Piedrabuena is one of the big names in the tournament.

NEW YORK - The former Sang Lee tournament at Carom Cafe in New York, now called the 2012 Verhoeven Open Tournament, will be held this year from 1 to 5 August. Torbjörn Blomdahl and Raymond Ceulemans are the most famous players in thje field. The Swede and the Belgian will be seeded in the semifinals/finals.

The prize money for the top three is 8000, 5000 and 4000 dollars. The playerslist so far shows the two seeded players Blomdahl and Ceulemans and 52 entrants. ,,But still we get players inscriptions every day'', assures Charles Brown, who along with Michael Kang is the tournament director.

The qualifications format will be dertimined by the number of entrants. It will be based on 7 groups of seven or eight players who play round robin to 25 points. The top two finishers plus some of the best third place finishers from each group advance to the semifinals.

The format will be determined once the final number of entrants is known. Twenty players will compete in the semifinals. Example: 2 groups of 10 players round robin, the winners of each group play for 1st and 2nd.

From 29 July to 3 August at the Carom Cafe also will be held the Predator World 14.1 Tournament with a prize money of $ 11,000 for the winner and 6000 for the number two.

The best-known players (with Torbjörn Blomdahl and Raymond Ceulemans) entered for the 2012 Verhoeven Open Tournament are: Eddy Leppens, Pedro Piedrabuena, Murat Naci Coklu, Hugo Patino, Glenn Hoffman, Julian Morales, Robinson Morales, Kurt and Peter Ceulemans, Mazin Shooni, Roberto Rojas, Luis Avila, Luis Aveiga, Javier Teran, Wim van Cromvoirt, Allan Lys Jensen, Ira Lee, Jae Hyung Cho, Carlos Campino Michael Kang, Jim Shovak, Andres Naranjo, William Oh and Joel Switala.
