BRUSSELS - The Royal Biljartkring Leopold in Brussels organized in his local club house the Memorial Emile Wafflard last year. The event was a huge success. This year, on Saturday, November 30th, the Brussels club will held, under the inspiring leadership of chairman Freddy Eeckhoudt and support of Jean-Marie Gesché a promotion day: the first Brussels Champions Day for ladies and gentlemen.
The goal is to promote Brussels as billiards city and in the longer term to stand as candidates for the World championship three cushion, the highlight in a billiards year in 2017 or 2018.
The six best ranked players at the Belgian ranking are invited to this day, as well as four leading ladies. The Belgian players are the newly crowned world champion Frédéric Caudron, Eddy Merckx, Belgian champion Roland Forthomme, Belgian cup holder Peter De Backer, Eddy Leppens and Peter Ceulemans.
The invited ladies are from Belgium Danielle le Bruyn and Karolien Matthys, for the Netherlands Karina Jetten and furthermore Frédéric Caudron’s girlfriend Jessica SuKyung Yeo from Korea.
The venue is Het Zuidpaleis in the Rogier van der Weydenstraat 3 in Brussels. The billiards room is on the third floor. The day starts at 12.00 and ends with a reception around 19.30.
The Brussels club opted for a fun and modern way to promote it billiards There is a performance of a xylophone recital this day and Kurt Ceulemans shows up with his humorous comments.
Guy Vanhengel, minister of finance of the Brussels Capital region, is one of the guests of honor. The organization will hand him the Golden World championship of Sluiskil (2010) as an example and fortaste for a World tournament.
