Javier Palazón is the titleholder and the huge favorite for the Spanish title.

Daniel Sánchez, the reigning world champion, will not be the champion of Spain this year. In Paiporta, where the championship is played, Sánchez was eliminated in the eighth finals by Rubèn Legaspi today: 50-44 in 40 innings.

In the Spanish championship, where the preliminary rounds were played from Monday, eight players are left who play the quarter finals tonight in Paiporta, a suburb of Valencia.

Javier Palazón plays just like Antonio Ortiz for his own audience in Paiporta and defends his title. The bronze medalist of the World championship in Sluiskil defeated Raul Hernandez last year in the final. Hernandez is now already out of the tournament.

Palazón again is the huge favorite to win. He shone in his match in the eighth finals against Jose R Gonzales 50-31 in 35 innings. Sergio Jimenez also made an excellent impression in his match with José M. Manteiga (50-31 in 35).

In the quarterfinals tonight plays Javier Palazón against José Maria Más. Jaime Faraco meets Carlos Crespo, Antonio Ortiz faces Rubèn Legazpi and Jesus Jimenez will play with Sergio Jimenez.

Tomorrow at 11.00 the semi-finals will be played, the final is at 17.00.
