The Picardie team celebrated the title top team league

AFFERDEN - The classic team of De Picardie from Afferden was honoured in its own house this Saturday for the victory in the team competition. The championship was already taken in the previous round. This Saturday, the team with Sam van Etten, Micha van Bochem and Jos Bongers played the double against Benelux Biljarts: the win was shared: 4-2 and 2-4. The eight teams in the top team competition play the final round on Saturday, April 14. Sam van Etten and Raymund Swertz were the star players in the match between De Picardie and Benelux Biljarts Snellen Horeca Service. Sam van Etten finished the 200 caroms in 47/2 against Guido Kauffeld in one inning (200-25), Raymund Swertz needed only 1 inning in 71/2 against Micha van Bochem (150-4). Michel van Silfhout and Jos Bongers showed a high level in one cushion: Van Silfhout won 100-70 in 4 innings. Bongers won in the second round 100-92 in 22.

The top team competition celebrated a new champion with De Picardie. The team with Sam van Etten, Micha van Bochem and Jos Bongers previously played in Ottersum under the name 't Ottertje. Dennis Timmers was the newcomer in De Picardie's team, named after a snack bar in Venlo who is the main sponsor of the team. Sam van Etten: ,,We have rotated with four player and all four we had a strong season.'' Raymund Swertz, from the opponent Benelux Biljarts: ,,De Picardie was the best team. We have lost our chances, they were the most regular.''

With one round to play, the best matches were recorded by Sam van Etten and Guido Kauffeld (47/2 in 1 inning), Raymund Swertz (twice), Dave Christiani, Martijn Egbers, Marek Faus and Dennis Timmers (71/2 in one inning) and Jean Paul de Bruijn, Dick Jaspers and Jos Bongers (one cushion in two innings). In the top five of players who have achieved the most match points for their team in percentage are Patrick Niessen (6 matches), Jean Paul de Bruijn (16 matches), Fabian Blondeel (20 matches), Marek Faus (16) and Sam van Etten (18).

For the time being, the top three of the ranking consists of De Picardie, The City/Dibo (Roij van Raaij, Arnd Riedl, Wiel van Gemert, in the line-up of Saturday) and BIOS Barneveld (Ferry Young, Dave Christiani, Dick Jaspers, as the team played on Saturday). The former champion team of De Hazelaar/Etikon is at a remarkably low position (seventh out of eight). That is basically a relegation place, but with two matches to go the team can still play safely. The reason for the low ranking is that Frédéric Caudron and Jean Paul de Bruijn were often lacking in the line-up.

Sam van Etten and Jos Bongers were the winners for De Picardie in the 4-2 match on Saturday against Benelux Biljarts. For Benelux Biljarts, Raymund Swertz and Michel van Silfhout scored in the first round. Sam van Etten and Raymund Swertz remained unbeaten.

In the match Bios Barneveld-The City Dibo, the match in for the positions two and three behind De Picardie, Dick Jaspers was the most striking player. He defeated Wiel van Gemert in one cushion 100-6 in two innings with a run of 82. In the first match, Jaspers lost 100-75 in 17 innings.

The ranking, two matches before the finish:
1 De Picardie 26-41
2 The City/Dibo 26-33
3 BIOS Barneveld 26-30
4 Benelux Biljarts 26-27
5 Wennekes.nl 26-22
6 Egbersbeek.nl 26-20
7 De Hazelaar/Etikon 26-18
8 De Vlaamse Molen 26-17.
