MUNICH - The German bundesliga is topped by BC Munich after nine rounds with a three points lead over BC Magdeburg and four points over BC Elversberg and BCC Witten. Bergisch Gladbacher dropped to sixth place and is almost out in the title race. Dick Jaspers was the best player in the double weekend with a 40 points match in ten innings.

The Dutch captain in the BC Magdeburg team defeated Nikos Polychronopoulos on Saturday 40-23 in ten, averaging 4.000. On Sunday, Jaspers played a draw against Frédéric Caudron, 40-40 in 22 innings.

The leader, BC Munich, came only one time to the tables, in the derby against BSV Munich: 6-2. Lütfi Cenet won his match in 23 innings, Johann Schirmbrand in 36 and Christos Christodoulidis in 34 innings. Kostas Papakonstantinou lost for the leaders against Andreas Horvath 40-20 in 24.

BC Magdeburg achieved a double victory, on Saturday against Bergisch Gladbacher 8-0, on Sunday against BC Elversberg 5-3. In the Saturday match not only Jaspers took the victory, also Dion Nelin against Dave Christiani (40-37 in 28), Markus Schönhoff against Freitos (40-19 in 27) and Christian Zollner against Raspel (40-28 in 39).

In the Sunday match, BC Magdeburg against BC Elversberg, three matches ended in a draw. Jaspers-Caudron, Schönhof-Bösel and Zollner-Marx. Decisive for Magdeburg's victory was the win by Dion Nelin over Jef Philipoom: 40-20 in 30.

Eddy Leppens had an excellent weekend as BCC Wittens' leading player. The Belgian defeated Caudron on Saturday 40-23 in 12, on Sunday he played a draw against Polychronopoulos in 18 innings.

Eddy Merckx had to bow for Raimond Burgman on Saturday (40-26 in 19) and took revenge on Sunday with a nice win against Christian Rudolph (40-17 in 14).
