Dick Jaspers played a world class match and beat Frédéric Caudron in ten innings

ISTANBUL - The European Cup for teams, which is held in Istanbul, turns out into an unexpected and sensational final. The Turkish home team Bahcelievler already advanced in the early hours against FC Porto for the golden match, the opponent in the final is not the eightfold winner Agipi but BC Deurne.

The final starts off at 14.30 Turkish time this afternoon.

The semi-final matches were both spectacular. Bahcelievler played a 4-4 draw against FC Porto and won by caroms, BC Deurne defeated in the second session the most laureled foursome in the world, the famous Agipi 6-2. Dick Jaspers was the undisputed stuntman in this encounter. The Dutchman, who doesn't often win his matches against Caudron in recent years, started sensational and tortured the world champion with amazing runs of 10 and 9 in the first four innings, bringing him to 20-3.

The Belgian tried to recover (nine in the fifth), but was knocked out in the second part of the party by his opponent 40-23 in ten innings.

Marco Zanetti showed up with one of his masterpieces, beating Eddy Merckx as a real assassin (40-10 in 16), so that Agipi was still promising at that time with a 13 caroms lead and a 2-2 on the scoreboard.

The other two matches, however turned out into Deurne's favor. Jérémy Bury was not a shadow of the player who brought him to the top in recent years and was outclassed by Jean Paul de Bruijn (40-25 in 27).
Davy van Havere crowned himself to match winner against the French champion Jean-Christophe Roux: 40-32 in 33.

Therefore, the Agipi team couldn't close its impressive track record with the farewell the team deserves. The French monument in the billiard sport was already beaten in the battle for the league title by Andernos. The series of eight European Cups will nevertheless remain in the books with golden letters.

BC Deurne is a remarkable finalist. The team will lose its strong line-up next season, because three players (Dick Jaspers, Eddy Merckx and Jean Paul de Bruijn) move together with Frédéric Caudron to the top team of AEJ, both in the Dutch and Belgian competition.

The matches for the final, live on Kozoom, are:

Dick Jaspers-Tayfun Tasdemir

Eddy Merckx-Lütfi Cenet

Jean Paul de Bruijn-Murat Naci Coklu

Davy van Havere-Adnan Yüksel.
