ANTWERPEN - At the end of a magnificent match the winner was only one point ahead on the score table. Dion Nelin showed his high class for this moment beating Eddy Merckx in the 5th round of the Belgian championship in the match between BC Deurne and BC Geox Herentals. Nelin finished in 21 innings (2.380 average), Merckx was only one point away from a draw (50-49).

The match ended in 4-4, because Jef Philipoom for BC Deurne beat Christian Rudolph (50-23 in 23) with a highest run of seventeen. Therese Klompenhouwer took the other win for Deurne with 42 in 37 innings against Geert Meijlemans. Ludo Dielis for Deurne was beaten by Leon Smolders (42-35 in 39).

BC Geox Herentals still is the leader in the ranking, together with BC Zanzibar, that shined with a 8-0-victory against BC Lugo. Roland Forthomme won the match against his friend Martin Spoormans, 50-42 in 33 innings, Dave Christiani beat Henk Habraken 50-49 with a run of ten for Habraken.

Frans van Kuyk, one of the excellent players in Belgium in the previous rounds, this time had not any chance against Frédéric Caudron, who took an early adventage and won 50-20 in only eighteen innings, with a run of fifteen for Caudron. Eddy Leppens finished as the winner in his match against Gerwin Valentijn, Piet Rodts was the third winner for Kasteeldreef in this match with Biljart Express.

K. Eeklose won the match against Op de Meir in the lower regions of this competitions with 6-2.

BC Geox and BC Zanzibar are the leaders now in the ranking with 5 points in 7 matches. Mr. 100 Lier plays his match for the fifth round this evening against Kon. Kortrijkse en can be the only leader by beating the opponent in Lier.
