Dutch/Turkish battle for the medals in Ladies Cup

ROSMALEN - Two Dutch and two Turkish women are in the battle for the medals in De Hazelaar in Rosmalen, where sixteen ladies in three cushion and eight in free game play for the European Ladies Cup. Therese Klompenhouwer is the big favourite for the final victory after a strong performance in the preliminaries (1.171 average) and a win in the quarterfinals over the Danish Marianne Mortensen (30-18 in 38).

The other Dutch lady, Karina Jetten, made the best impression in the quarters, where she defeated Fendi Aysegul from Turkey 30-20 in 36 innings. The two Turkish winners in the quarterfinals didn't reach thirty caroms within the 40 innings limit. Guzin Mujde Karakasli defeated Monique Wilkowski 26-17 in 40, Gülsen Degener was a way too strong for Loes van Dansik (17-4 in 40).

The four semi-finalists in the free game, which is played at the same time, are four Dutch ladies: Daisy Werdekker, Miriam Pruim-Emmens, Monique van Exter and Francine van Yperen.

Therese Klompenhouwer had a minor match in the quarterfinals, in which she had a bad start and a better final part against Marianne Mortensen from Denmark. The world champion started the tournament with superior consecutive wins over Gerrie Geelen (25-5 in 18), Guzin Mujde Karakasli (25-7 in 25) and Veronika Krausova (25-7 in 25).

Gülsen Degener (6 points, 0.769), Aysegul Fendy (4 points, 0.521) and Monique Wilkowski (4 points, 0.559) were the other group winners. The numbers one and two of the groups qualified for the quarterfinals.

Mirjam Pruim-Emmens and Daisy Werdekker were the groupwinners in free game, in which eight (six Dutch) ladies battled it out for four places in the semi-finals. Daisy Werdekker played the best match in the qualifications with a win over Monika Steinberger 120-26 in 14 beurten.
