VELBERT - The two leaders in the Bundesliga, BCC Witten and Bergisch Gladbacher, took the maximum profit in the the league round(s) this weekend. BCC Witten won its two games for the thirteenth and fourteenth round, Bergisch played only once, on Saturday.

Most notable match on Saturday in the encounter between BSV Velbert and Bergisch Gladbacher was the clash between two heavyweights Eddy Merckx and Torbjörn Blomdahl. The Belgian had the best final sprint after a fierce battle and won 40-38 in 21. The winner sparkled with a high run of fifteen.

Bergisch Gladbacher, nevertheless, took the win in the match 6-2. Martin Horn defeated Torsten Anders (40-30 in 24) and Markus Dömer and Thomas Horcher both won in 39 innings.

Two Dutch met in a magnificent match on Sunday. Jean van Erp, who once was fourth man in the Dutch dream team of Van Donge and De Roo with Dick Jaspers, Torbjörn Blomdahl and Martin Horn, defeated his former captain Jaspers 40-35 in 20 innings.

His team Sterkrade defeated Magdeburg 6-2: Ramazan Durdu (against Markus Schönhoff, 40-24 in 34 innings) and Roger Liere (against Christian Zöllner, 40-31 in 29 ) took the other team wins.

BC Magdeburg, fighting against relegation, picked up some important points on Saturday against Bottroper BA (6-2) by victories Dick Jaspers against Christian Rudolph (40-36 in 20) and Markus Schönhoff (38 innings) and Christian Zöllner (49 innings).

BCC Witten continues to lead the table with two wins and tops the ranking with the same points as Bergisch Gladbacher, but with better match numbers (54 against 38). The leader defeated Ravensburger on Saturday (6-2) and BSV Munich on Sunday (8-0). Eddy Leppens was an great frontman in both games with wins in 24 innings against Birol Uymaz (40-37) and vs Michael Puse (40-20).

Stefan Galla won his matches in 28 and 25 innings. Volker Baten also remained unbeaten, Ronny Lindemann lost only his Saturdays match against Murat Gökman 40-30 in 25.

BCC Witten and Bergisch Gladbacher have fourteen points out of 23, BSV Velbert and Bfr Sterkrade follow with sixteen points, BC Ravensburger is on fifteen. BC Magdeburg and CBV Neustadt are at the bottom of the table with eight points out of 15 games.

Marco Zanetti played two games for BC Munich in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Saturday the Italian bested Reiner Schiwek 40-28 in 21 including a 14 run, on Sunday Zanetti was the winner 40-21 in 26 innings against Paul Call. His team won 8-0 on Saturday in Frankfurt, and played a draw against BSC Merzenick on Sunday.
