Eddy Merckx, another high level match with 4.444 average

STERKRADE - New Belgian champion Eddy Merckx is the most remarkable player in the first weeks of the new year. In the championship of his country he took the title in a 40 carom match in only ten innints. In the German bundesliga, Saturday, he did even better: 40 in 9 innings.

His team, BSV Velbert, is in the top three of the league with fifteen points out of twelve matches, behind BCC Witten (19 points) and Bergisch Gladbacher (19). The leader, Witten lost a precious point on Saturday by losses of Eddy Leppens and Volker Baten.

Eddy Merckx again showed his great form in the match in which he faced his countryman Thomas Broux. With a top run of thirteen he closed the match at 40-16 in nine innings. BSV Velbert played a draw in the away match against BFR Sterkrade. Eddy Merckx won and Thomas Anders defeated Ramazan Durdu. Roger Liere and Carsten Raspel took the wins for Sterkrade.

Bergisch Gladbacher had a day off on the first day of the double round and plays against Sterkrade on Sunday.

Jens Eggers was the captain of the GT Buer team in the match against BCC Witten. The German defeated Eddy Leppens 40-32 in 31 innings. Stefan Galla and Ronny Lindeman scored for BCC Witten, Stefan Galla defeated his brother Markus 40-32 in 31 innings.

BC Magdeburg couldn't not feel comfortable after the far away match against BSV Munich. Only Markus Schönhoff won his match for the Magdeburgers against Herbert Szivacz (40-32 in 40) . Dion Nelin was defeated by Michael Puse 40-38 in 26.
