BOGOTÁ - The main event at the Grand Prix Americano in Bogotá reached the final stages with 48 players after a long series of heats. Erick Tellez was the best player in the preliminaries with 1.622 average. The Costa Rican is one of the favourites fort he title. Alexander Salazar, another star, lost in his last match to the young Montoya, but could qualify as third in his group. He is part of the group of death in the main draw with Arley Galeano and Luis Martinez.
The Pan American champion Huberney Cataño reached the main draw as second in his group with 1.341 average. Highlight in the final qualifying was the match between Robinson Morales and Arley Montoya, who won by a final run of seven.
The Ecuadorian Luis Aveiga had a minor start with a loss against Jose Hernandez, but then recovered and qualified for the main tournament.
The 48 players for the main event play in 16 groups of three to two winning sets of 15 caroms.
