BRANDENBURG - The final day at the European championship billiards starts today, Sunday, with the national teams, the ladies and the players at the small table. The eight countries that have qualified for the quarter finals in the Scotch Double system are Netherlands 1, Belgium 1, Turkey 1, Spain 1, Denmark 1 and 2, France 1 and Germany 1. Therese Klompenhouwer, Andrea Hofman, Guzin Mujde Karakasli and Irena Hambalkova play the semi-finals in the ladies.

The semi-finals for women start this Sunday with the big favorite Therese Klompenhouwer and only one Turkish contender. Aysegul Fendi and Gülsen Degener were eliminated, only Guzin Mujde Karakasli is in the semi-finals. Two Dutch ladies, Therese Klompenhouwer and Andrea Hofman face each other. In the other semi-final, Karakasli plays against Hambalkova. On the final day, the final rounds of three cushion for national teams and three cushion at the small billiards table close the tournament. Ivo Gazdos, Jan Hudak, Steven van Acker, Serdar Bas, Ömer Karakurt, Karl Makik, Peter Meersman and Grégory Le Deventec play in the last four of the three cushion small billiards. The last ceremony is this Sunday at the end of the afternoon at 17.30.

The Turkish Aysegul Fendi, who was the best player in the first round and defeated Therese Klompenhouwer in the second round (with a run of 10), was knocked out by Marianne Mortensen (22-19 in 40). Gülsen Degener disappeared from the tournament due to a loss against Mirjam Pruim Emmens (24-22 in 40). Guzin Mujde Karakasli won in the quarterfinals against Mortensen 30-18 in 36. Therese Klompenhouwer slowly grows to a better form with victories over the Spanish Cardoso (30-11 in 28) and in the quarterfinals against Danielle Le Bruyn (30-13 in in 28).

The semi-finals for the ladies are at 9.00 am, the final this Sunday at 12.00.

Netherlands 1 with Dick Jaspers, the brand new European champion and Raimond Burgman qualified with the best average for the quarterfinals, followed by Belgium 1, Turkey 1, Spain 1 and Denmark 2. The two Danish teams play against each other today for a place in the half finals. Turkey plays against Spain, Belgium against France and the Netherlands against Germany.

The best winners in the previous rounds were Ivan Gazdos against Tobias Bouerdick 40-20 in 13 and Ömer Karakurt against Kenny Miatton 40-19 in 15 with a run of 13.
