Four semifinalists for the Asian Games

INCHEON - Four players, who are known from the international circuit of three cushion, enter the final phase of the three-cushion tournament in the Asian Games in Incheon (Kor). The Japanese Ryuji Umeda and O Takeshima and the Vietnamese players Quoc Nguyen Nguyen and Xuan Cuong Ma play the semi-finals of the tournament tomorrow (Thursday, Asian time 13.00).

The big surprise came from O Takeshima, the Japanese who is famous due to the elimination of Dick Jaspers at the World championships in Porto two years ago. In the quarter-finals of the Asian Games he defeated the Korean Kyung Roul Kim 40-37.

Another Korean top player, Jae Ho Cho, had to leave the tournament after losing with penalty shots (40-40 in the regular match, 2-1 in overtime) against the Vietnamese Xuan Cuong Ma.

Ryuji Umeda, former world champion, came to the semi’s by defeating the Indonesian Rudy Hasan (40-29) and Nguyen Quoc Nguyen bested Antoine Gholam from Lebanon 40-20.

Two Mongolian players, Dorsjuren Batbayar and Batkhuu Aliman, the Thai Thawat Sujarithurakann and Francisco Delacruz from the Philipins were eliminated in the previous round.

The Koreans have recorded a success in one cushion where Durkhee Hwang won the final against Dinh Nai Ngo from Vietnam 100-97.

The Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games last until Saturday. The final in three cushion is on Thursday.
