Frédéric Caudron: winner of a superb match against Dick Jaspers.

CHATILLON - Frédéric Caudron did once, long time ago, a confession: if I play three matches against Dick Jaspers, maybe I can win once. The Belgian played such a match in the French championship, where Agipi met Clichy Montmartre in the late evening session.

Caudron overwhelmed his opponent in a brilliant match, in which he was even threatened in the final by a superb endshot of Jaspers. The final sprint of Caudron nevertheless was rewarded by a full win. Jaspers was fighting like a lion, made a run of ten on a backlog of 47-36 in twelve innings, but finished two caroms behind Caudron: 50-48 in thirteen innings.

The match, with an average of 3.845 for the Belgian and 3.692 for his opponent must have been one of the best ever played.

On the other table the tension was even bigger in the late evening session. Marco Zanetti led almost the entire match against Eddy Merckx, but the Belgian repared a score of 46-36 with a run of ten. The score was in balance at 46-46 and 49-49. Zanetti ended up first to 50, Merckx made his last point in the equalizer.

Agipi won the match against Clichy-Montmartre 5-3, because Jérémy Bury beat Richard Bitalis earlier in the evening and Jean Reverchon tied the match for Clichy against Jean-Christophe Roux.

Tomorrow is the return between these teams.
