Frédéric Caudron gets the finish in sight against De Bruijn

BRANDENBURG - The topmatch between Frédéric Caudron and Jean Paul de Bruijn, in the semifinals of one cushion, turned out into a big victory for the Belgian, who defends his title in Brandenburg. He won the duel 120-14 in six innings.

The French clash between Bernard Villiers and Alain Remond missed the thrill of a semi-final, because Villiers took a big advantage and Remond didn’t manage to come back in the match. Villiers triumphed 120-14 in 12 innings.

Jean Paul de Bruijn missed the feeling and confidence with which he eliminated Torbjörn Blomdahl in the previous round in two innings. The Dutchman started unlucky against Caudron, when he missed by a whisker after 24 points in his first inning.
Thereafter he made only 13 points in four innings.

Caudron responded in the first inning with 33, continued with 39 in the third and finished with a solid final run.

The 47-year-old Bernard Villiers from Provins (between Paris and Troyes) plays his first final in a European championship. Two years ago he was eliminated in the semifinals by Jean Paul de Bruijn. Villiers won six French titles in his career, three of them in three cushion.

He defeated Alain Remond, the specialist in France, without much opposition. Remond only scored one point in the equalizer and finished at 47 caroms.
