HOOGEVEEN - Haeng Jik Kim (Korea), Ruben Fernandez Bermejo (Spain), David Martinez (Spain) and Kenny Miatton (Belgium) are the leaders in the groups after one day in the World Championship for juniors in Hoogeveen. The Dutch player Glenn Hofman, who is one of the candidates for the title, needs a strong finish after losing his evening match yesterday against Kenny Miatton.

Two groups with four players each finished their group phase on the first day. Ruben Fernandez Bermejo and Jens van Dam (Netherlands) made it to the quarter finals in A, sending Manuel Lidao (Ecuador) and Yusuke Mori (Japan) back home.

David Martinez (the European champion from Spain) and Dustin Jäschke (Germany) reached the best sixteen in B by beating William Villanueva (Venezuela) and Jun Tae Kim (Korea)

Kenny Miatton is the leader in C before Huberney Catano Ospina (Colombia), but in this group there is one more match to play. Glenn Hofman needs a victory against Mohamed Abdin from Egypt to have a chance reaching the quarters. Hofman together with Miatton is the player with the highest average in this group: both 1.014.

The level in the D-groupe is even higher. Haeng Jik Kim is the leader with four matchpoints and 0.975, Eric Tromas (France) the number two with two matchpoints and 1.083 average. Tromas is the second in his group, playing his last match against Bryan Tempeler (Luxemburg).
