French player Joël Switala oversees a difficult position in his match with Wim van den Berg.

TRABZON - The great match of Savas Bulut (3.000 average) hasn't been exceeded so far, but with Peter Ceulemans, Lee Chung Bok, Barry van Beers, Youichirou Mori, Murat Tüzül, José María Más and Haeng Jik Kim at the billiards, the averages are increased spectaculary. How exciting the matches are in the different groups, shows the Group G, in which the two Japanese players Mori and Hagiwara fought a great duel. Youichirou Mori won 2-1, played an average of 1.500, his opponent 1.380.

Even more fascinating was the match between Therese Klompenhouwer and the Egyptian Khaled Salem, who had lost his first match and was fighting for his last chance. The Dutch lady crept through the eye of the needle: she survived six match balls and finally won the two deciding sets both 15-14.

Glenn Hofmann had a slow start, despite the 2-0 win against Erdal Ergün (1.153). His great rival in the junior tournaments, Haeng Jik Kim from Korea, opened much beter. He defeated his opponent Bülent Ozdemir twice 15-3 with an average of 1.875. The victory of the Korean was no surprise. His Turkish opponent had a highest run of one!

Jean Reverchon beat his Turkish opponent Hamit Akkaya 15-7 and 15-8, but also has to win his second match against Muhamed Cavusoglu to reach the next round.

Barry van Beers started with a very solid 2-0 victory against Kyak Ali and an average of 1.500. Peter Ceulemans and José Maria Más came up to the start with great ambitions. The Spaniard beat Adem Ozcelik 15-13 and 15-0, the Belgian showed a high level against his Turkish opponent Akgum.

Wim van den Berg, who lost his first match against Jean van Erp, now defeated Frenchman Joël Switala and scored a run of nine.
