Heriberto Aristizabal was the best in the preliminaries.

BOGOTA - Heriberto Aristizabal has qualified as the very best of 44 players for the second round at the Grand Prix Intercontinental Club 8 in Bogota. The Colombian finished 1.538 average in his group and played his best match 1.875.

His opponents in the preliminaries were Oscar Celis and Hector Melo. Luis Martinez also made a strong impression with 1.304.

 The winners of ten groups were Pedro Gonzalez (1.161), Julian Torres (1.091), Huberney Catano (1.132), Jose Gomez (0.882), Heriberto Aristizabal (1.538), Carlos M. Villegas (0.918), Manuel Martinez (0.896), Jose Garcia (1.196), Daniel Morales (1.047) and Luis Martinez (1.304).

The tournament has entered the second phase with 44 players from the qualifying rounds and the seeded players Dani Sánchez, Semih Sayginer, Tayfun Tasdemir and Eddy Leppens.

The 48 players are divided in sixteen groups of three, from which the top two players move on to the knockout stages.

Dani Sánchez plays in his group with Michael Lozano and Josue Torres. Tayfun Tasdemir in Group 2 with Julian Morales and Gabriel Vasquez, Eddy Leppens in Group 3 with Edwin Perez and Eugenio Lopez, Semih Sayginer with Andres Lizarazo and Jon Giraldo. Heriberto Aristizabal, who will perform for Colombia at the World championships in Porto, will meet Felipe Cepeda.
