Jan Ales, the new champion in Czech Republic

OSTRAVA - Jan Ales, the 41-year old player from Kladno, is the winner of the 34th edition of Czech national championhips in 3-cushion. In the final, Ales defeated the best and most successfull Czech 3-cushion player Martin Bohac 40-37. For Ales it is his second national tittle. Bohac has been waiting for his seventh tittle for five years now.

Both played a good semi-final games. Bohac beat Radek Novak 40-22 in 29 innings. Ales was even better. He took victory against Zdenek Galicek, 40-24 in 28 innings.

The tournament was played in Ostrava, third biggest city in Czech republic, in BC Poruba, club of defending champion Radovan Hajek. Unfortunately, to the sadness of local supporters, Hajek lost to Ales in the quarter finals.

The final match was far below the level of both finalists. Mainly the start of the game was bad. The final part of the game was really thrilling. At a score of 30-29, Bohac made a run of six and it looked like the decisive run. But Ales fought back with runs 4-2-2 for a draw on the scoreboard: 37-37. Then, Bohac made a big mistake and opened a position for his competitor. Ales made run of 3 and won the championhis.

The tournament was attended by many spectators thanks to billboards accross of Ostrava. Moreover, the entire tournament was transmitted live on Youtube. Czech billiard federation is proud that the organizers are getting better and better every year. The Poruba team was the winner of the Czech 3-cushion league and with the strong line-up Bohac, Hajek and Gazdos will be together with second team from Kladno at the Coupe d'Europe 3-cushion in Porto this June.
