Dick Jaspers won his three matches in 14, 16 and 18 innings

ATHENE/SABADELL - It is as yet unknown where Dick Jaspers will play in the leagues next season, and with whom. That could be for the same sponsor, in Holland and Belgium. It would be nice if that team, with Frédéric Caudron, Eddy Merckx and Jean Paul de Bruijn could stay together, but nothng is certain about that. The Dutch top player has already sent an impressive application around the world, in the past weeks. He won the Luxor World Cup in a record breaking final (5.000 average), kept that form in the leagues (with a 5.500 match) and this weekend was the best player in the qualification stages of the Europa Cup for club teams. Jaspers' team of Dallinga/AEJ played in the Athens flight and went up against three opponents that were never serious rivals.

The five seeded teams for the final round in Istanbul are Dallinga/AEJ, FC Porto, BK Gröndal, Andernos and All Games Alcamo.

The Dutch Dallinga team only lost one point in twelve matches: Jean Paul de Bruijn played a draw against Spaniard Esteve Mata. Other than that, it was just a victory march. Dick Jaspers was the best player, with wins in 18, 16 and14 innings (to 40). His best match was against Greek player Nick Evagelou, where he won in 14 innings helped by a run of twenty. Frédéric Caudron (18, 21 and 22 innings) and Eddy Merckx (21, 28 and 20 innings) also performed on a high level, giving Dallinga a 1.846 team average. The winner of this flight will no doubt be the main rival for title holders Bahcelievler from Turkey.

Second in the flight were Club Billar Mataro with four points, ahead of Masters BC Athene with two and Academie de Billard Luxembourg with zero points. Torbjörn Blomdahl was another star in this qualification weekend. In the Porto flight where he represented the host city, the Swede beat Eddy Leppens 40 - 24 in 11, mostly thanks to a brilliant closing run of 22 (3.636/2.182).

FC Porto and BCC Witten battlet it out in the last group match in which the German team needed a draw to advance. FC Porto showed his high class and won 8-0 thanks to Torbjörn Blomdahl who beat Leppens (40-24 in 11), Dani Sánchez who defeated Ronny Lindemann (40-31 in 25) and a strong Rui Costa against Volker Baten (40-18 in 24).

Coral Colón and BK Gröndal played in Sabadell and were neck and neck for first place. The Spanish and the Danish team ended level on match points, having drawn against each other. The Danes edged it on percentage, making the hosts runner-up. Victories by Dion Nelin and Tonny Carlsen over Jose Maria Mas and Sergio Jimenez proved decisive. Dion Nelin won by a single point (40-39 in 26), Tonny Carlsen beat Jimenez in another interesting confrontation (40-37 in 22). Carlos Crespo and Xavier Yeste made it 4-4, but that wasn'enough for Coral Colon to qualify. There was a remarkable role in this flight for Arnim Kahofer of Wiener Billard Assoziaton, who played as team captain and remained undefeated, beating Nelin, Mas and Tachoire with a general average of 1.430.

Andernos (with Jérôme Barbeillon as its best player), Elektronik Tarti Billardo (Bulut, Celik, Alp and Akkaya) and Bristol Odense (Michael Nilsson, Brian Zola Hansen) finished off with six points. Andernos was the group winner with the better game points (22-10) and finished 1.331 average.

he most striking results in this group, with the numbers four and five Green Planet with Marco Zanetti and BSK Union with Martin Horn:

Marco Zanetti beats Martin Horn 40-35 in 24. Michael Nilsson beats Savas Bulut 40-19 in 16. Zanetti defeats Filippos Kasidokostas 40-14 in 21. Jérôme Barbeillon wins two matches in 16 and 21 innings. Michael Nilsson shines against Zanetti 40-39 in 21. Michael Nilsson beats Filippos Kasidokostas 40-26 20.

BK Gröndal was the winner with 1.253 team average and 26-6 in game points, Coral Colón equalled the match points but scored 25-7 in game points with a 1.328 team average. Wiener Billard Assoziaton was third with four points, ahead of Laxou with two points and Cab La Chaux-de-Fonds with zero points. Laxou turned out to be the nail in Coral Colon's coffin: the French lost 8-0 to Gröndal and 7-1 to Coral Colon.

The All Games team from Alcamo

All Games Alcamo won the flight in Bergisch Gladbach, with Portugese Leca ending on the same match - and game points. The Italians won on points scored: Michele Notarrigio, Emilio Sciacca, Francesco Orlando and Liberato Picciano advancing. BC Deurne, without Torbjörn Blomdahl or Jef Philipoom, ended third in this flight with three match points, ahead of Bergisch Gladbach with one point.
