CAPELLE AAN DEN IJSSEL - Dick Jaspers has shown his huge progress again at the Grand Prix in Capelle aan den IJssel. His first appearance in the tournament in his own country, after winning the Lausanne Billiard Masters, was a high class performance. Jaspers won three group matches, his last against Adrie Demming was a marvellous 40-9 in 9 innings (4.444 average). Jaspers played 2.400 over three matches. Sander Jonen, the artistic player, was Jaspers' best opponent with 40-25 in 23.

The Grand Prix in Capelle aan den IJssel continues today with four other groups of four in the main tournament. Dick Jaspers, Jean van Erp, Martien van der Spoel and Dave Christiani were the group winners on the first day. Christiani's run of 21 in his match against Wim van Cromvoirt (40-21 in 23) was the highlight of the day. He equalled his personal best that he played in 2012. ,,I hadn't seen any decent ball in fourteen innings, then, suddenly, I could fire up the match with the high run'', he said.

In Group A, Sander Jonen secured his qualification as second behind Dick Jaspers by victories over Adrie Demming (40-35 in 33) and Roland Uytdewillegen (40-19 in 21).

Jean van Erp was a model of regularity in Group C with match wins in 21, 23 and 22 innings. Ad Koorevaar was the number two in the group with four match points.

In Group F, Martien van der Spoel took the first place despite a loss against Bert van Manen (40-35 in 30). Van der Spoel played his best match in the last round against Volkan Cetin (40-26 in 24), including a run of fourteen. Van Manen lost in that round against Peter Vlaar (40-20 in 31) and finished up second.

Dave Christiani and Jeffrey Jorissen finished on one and two in their group. Christiani was a way too strong for his opponent in the mutual match, which he won 40-17 in 20.

Raymon Groot, who had a strong run-up in the qualifications, was the last in his group after a dramatic match against Jorissen (40-11 in 29). He finished 0.873 average.
