Jaspers and Leppens sparkle in bundesliga

Dick Jaspers in a starring role in Germany: 40 in 13 innings.

MUNICH - The BC Munich team has managed to maintain its leading position despite the loss on Saturday against BC Elversberg. The team on top in the German bundesliga defeated the defending champion Bergisch Gladbacher 6-2 last weekend on Sunday. BC Eversberg, that played one match less, is two points down the number two on the ranking. Dick Jaspers, Eddy Leppens, Jean van Erp, Jean Paul de Bruijn and Klaus-Bernhard Bösel were the stars of the double round with averages over 2.000. The best match came from Dick Jaspers on Saturday, in the match against Eddy Merckx, won by the Dutchman 40-27 in 13 innings, including a run of 17.

Eddy Leppens defeated Thorsten Frings 40-26 in 15 innings, Jean van Erp was the better of Stefan Galla, 40-21 in 16, Jean Paul de Bruijn bested Lütfi Cenet 40-29 in 18, and Klaus-Bernhard Bösel shone against Herbert Szivacz 40 -34 in 19.

The first round of the weekend was marked by the clash between BC Munci and BC Elversbert, two teams battling it out in a fierce title race. The Elversberg team defeated the leader 6-2 thanks to Jean Paul de Bruijn, Jef Philipoom (40-30 against Papakonstantinou in 29 innings) and Volker Marx, who beat Christodoulidis in 34 innings. The only player who scored for Munich was Johann Schirmbrand, recording 40-28 in 27 against Klaus-Bernhard Bösel.

Bottroper was stronger than GT Buer, BCC Witten mastered Krefeld, including a victory of the German champion Ronny Lindemann over Barry Beers (40-35 in 28).

BC Munich referred Bergisch Gladbacher on Sunday to the sub top on the ranking by a 6-2 victory. Lütfi Cenet defeated Nikos Polychronopoulos 40-36 in 24, Kostas Papakonstantinou left Pierre Soumagne behind 40-34 in 20 and Johann Schirmbrand won again, beating Jens Eggers now 40-22 in 24 innings.

BC Magdeburg missed out a precious point against Krefeld (4-4). The two team leaders showed up with a win: Jaspers defeated Frings 40-27 in 25, Nelin jumped to win against De Jaeger 40-26 in 26.

BC Elversberg continued his title race on Sunday with a 6-2 win over BSV Munich. Jean Paul de Bruijn won again, this time shining against Michael Puse, 40-29 in 22. Andreas Horvath defeated Jef Philipoom 40-21 in 24. Klaus-Bernhard Bösel recovered from his loss on Saturday and topped his opponent Szivacz in 19 innings.
