Jaspers on his way to 14th Masters title

NIJVERDAL - Dick Jaspers has to beat to last opponents on his way to his 14the Masters title. The 45 year old Dutch player reached the semi finals today with an easy victory on Barry van Beers. Jaspers scored an average of 2.368 after three winning sets.

The Masters tournament, that is hold in Nijverdal, started with 32 players. Jean Paul de Bruijn, the champion of three years ago, did not survive the qualifications. He signed for the best match (45 points in eighteen innings), but lost his games against Jan Arnouts and Jean van Erp.

Therese Klompenhouwer, the only lady on the stage of the theatre in Nijverdal, reached the sixteen best, but then was beaten by Anno de Kleine.

Dick Jaspers scored the best average in the qualification rounds with 1.875 in three matches, with a highest run of fifteen. Raimond Burgman (1.391), Anno de Kleine (1.483) and Barry van Beers (1.408) seemed to be concurrents, but Jaspers today bumped Van Beers out of the tournament.

The semi finals will be played later today. The most remarkable player in the quarter finals is the 60 year old postman Herman Slikker.
