VLAARDINGEN - Three hours of sleep, a heavily pregnant woman, very late work in the cafe and in between top performance in the Grand Prix in the 'Oogh van Vlaerdingh'. Jeffrey Jorissen strikes on two fronts this week. ,,I slept for three hours, but apparently that's enough to play on a high level,'' he said after the first day in Vlaardingen and a great win against Barry van Beers: 40-17 in 19 innings.

The 'Hagenaar' played two hands down and looked very fit at the table. ,,But I have been working late in the night in the cafe. And when I finally went to bed, I've rubbed the tummy of my wife Samantha, because there was a lot of movement inside. We expect our baby in ten days.''

Jeffrey Jorissen was one of eight players who qualified on the first day of the main event. Dick Jaspers and Dave Christiani were the other luminaries averaging 2.033 and 1.764 over three matches.

Dave Christiani and Harrie van de Ven finished their match in Group C in 16 and 17 innings.

Barry an Beers recovered after his misstep against Jeffrey Jorissen with a win in 20 innings against Jack Wijnen, who could not qualify for next round, however he (and Martien van der Spoel) made the highest run of the day: 12.

Dick Jaspers showed the most regularity are three matches. He won 40-7 (17) against Van Essen, 40-9 (17) against Demming and 40-28 (25) against Beemsterboer.
