Emilio Sciacca was one of the shining stars at day one of the championship.

VIERSEN - When the Turkish player Murat Naci Coklu made his last caroms, leaving Jérôme Barbeillon from France far behind, the fate of his country laid in the hands of Jérémy Bury. The French number did what was expected with his reputation for the moment: he beat Adnan Yüksel, the other Turkish defending champion, 2-0 with an excellent average of 1.875. His victory kept the French team alive on the opening day of the World championship.

For sure it was not the day of Jérôme Barbeillon, who scored only eight points in twelve innings in the first set against Coklu and after a run of nine of his opponent he never had a chance in the second too. The Frenchman ended up with 0.600 average, far below his usual level.

Jérémy Bury kept the team in the race with a magnificent match against Yüksel. Therefor France-Turkey B ended with a 2-2 score, although the Turks lead by a better general average. The Korean team, with Kyung Rouo Kim and Chung Bok Lee is the other opponent in this group.

Emilio Sciacca was one of the stars of the first afternoon session. He plays for Italy, but is domiciled in the Netherlands. Rui Manuel  Costa, a player with a great experience, was left behind with a thick spanking, Sciacca won 15-6 and 15-11 with an average of 1.667. The Italians seized the full win, because Michele Notarrigo was too strong for Joao Pedro Ferreira: 2-1.

Two other teams in the first rounds took the maximum score in sets. Netherlands B won more or less surprising against Japan 2-0. Jean van Erp came to the finish with two winning sets against Youichirou Mori (15-8, 8-15, 15-2), the Dutchman played an average of 1.407. Ad Broeders and Ryuji Umeda acted at a lower level, Brothers grabbed the 2-1 win with 0.800 average.

Anh Vu Duong and Ly The Vinh were both succesful for Vietnam in their battles with the Peruvians Guido Saco and Oscar Pachas.
