Jerry Hermans made a succesful comeback after being 25-2 behind

VLAARDINGEN - The wonderful comeback that Jerry Hermans made, last night in the Grand Prix in Vlaardingen, was more or less like Eddy Leppens did in the Belgian league this week. The level was not that high, but like Leppens did in his match against Blomdahl, being 24-0 down in 3 innings and then win 50-38, the young Dutch player was facing a huge backlog (25-2 in 20 innings) in Vlaardingen.

Jeffrey Jorissen was his opponent: the Hague-born player started pretty well, where Hermans had 18 misses in 19 innings. But like in the match with Leppens and Blomdahl, the match turned upside down. Jorissen lost his way and produced many misses, Hermans began to score well. And eventually, the turning point resulted in a win for Hermans, 40-38 in 41 innings.

Jerry Hermans thereby remained unbeaten in his group, ahead of Harry van de Ven, the come-back kid. Hermans finished 1.235, Jorissen, after his breakdown, missed the qualification and was third in the group ahead of Charles Mekes. Hermans also signed for the best match in this group with 40-25 in 19 against Van de Ven.

The ranking:
1 Hermans 6-1.176-7
2 Van de Ven 4-1.235-6
3 Jorissen 2-1.020-7
4 Mekes 0-0.663-9

Dick Jaspers entered the knock-outs without being in trouble, with six points and 2.105, followed by Huub Wilkowski, Kay de Zwart and Dick van Mourik. The Dutch champion started smoothly against Van Mourik, who even had a better start, but finally Jaspers won 40-27 in 20. His two other matches were in 18 (40-15 against Wilkowski) and 19 innings (40- 22 against De Zwart). Wilkowski claimed second place against De Zwart, 40-25 in 25 with a run of 11.

The ranking:
1 Jaspers 6-2.105-10
2 Wilkowski 4-1.202-11
3 De Zwart 2-1.035-5
4 Van Mourik 0-0.718-5

Roland Uijtdewillegen played a remarkably strong preliminary round and excelled in the group where he beat Jean van Erp on match points and average. Albert Kooistra and Marcel van Berkel finished, three and four. Uijtdewillegen shone with an unbeaten series, with wins in 29, 23 and 22 innings. He defeated Jean van Erp 40-32 in 23. The final average of the leader was 1621 with a run of 10.

The ranking:
1 Uijtdewillegen 6-1.621-10
2 Van Erp 4-1.272-7
3 Kooistra 2-1.069-6
4 Van Berkel 0-0.797-7

Dave Christiani needed a strong last match against Herman van Daalen to qualify second behind Therese Klompenhouwer. The Limburg player started with a draw against Herman Slikker in 33 innings, then lost to Klompenhouwer 40-24 in 24, but escaped with a win over Herman van Daalen in 19 innings. Therese recovered after her loss against Van Daalen (40-23 in 38) with victories over Christiani and Slikker and lifted her average just over one with a high run of 10 in the match against Christiani.

The ranking:
1 Klompenhouwer 4-1.084-10
2 Christiani 3-1.368-9
3 Slikker 3-1.062-9
4 Van Daalen 2-0.988-5.

Today, Thursday, are the groups with among others Raimond Burgman, Jean Paul de Bruijn, Glenn Hoffman, Barry van Beers, Raymund Swertz, Frans van Schaik and Sander Jonen. Hans de Bruin had to cancel and was replaced by Wim van Cromvoirt.
