Colombian former world champion Jose Juan Garcia, seriously injured in a motor crash

CHIA/COLOMBIA - The Colombian billiard player Jose Juan Garcia (26) has been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident near Bogóta. The junior world champion in Pelopenesos/Greece, 2013 and player in many World Cups, was on his way home in the early morning of Thursday at 5.00 am. Because of bad visibility, he had to avoid another motorbike. Garcia therefore collided with a car and was hit by another motorbike. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Two people were seriously injured in the accident. Garcia was transferred to the nearest hospital in Mosquera. There, a stomach and chest trauma were diagnosed and collapsed lungs. Liliana Garcia visited her brother at the Intensive Care room, where he underwent a thoracotomy hours later, to relieve the pressure on his chest and one day later, on Friday evening an open abdominal surgery.

Garcia, one of the greatest talents in Colombian billiards, was awakened from his sleep on Saturday night. His condition is encouraging. Garcia needs to stay at the IC department for a few days to further recover.

Many fans and friends sympathize with Garcia by messages on facebook and wish him a speedy recovery.

JeeJee, or Jota Garcia, as he is called by his friends, shone in an Open tournament in Medellin last week with a run of 15. He is the number 42 on the UMB world ranking. His most striking victory was in the World Cup in Bursa last year, where he beat Korean Dong-Koong Kang 40-36 in 10 and in the World Cup in Guri in 2015, where he reached the quarterfinals by a victory over Torbjörn Blomdahl 40-26.
