David Zapata on his way to the juniors final

BRANDENBURG - The Spanish trainer and coach Jose Maria Quetglas almost saw his dream come true. He watched from the stands two matches in the junior semifinals, in which two of his talents were playing.

David Zapata defeated in his amazing style the Belgian debutant Wesley van Apers and qualified as first for the final. On the other table, David Martinez and Ömer Karakurt battled for the win, in a match which was in balance from the start until the end.

The Spaniard trailed 26-22 in the final phase, when he came to the table, ran a six and was at two points from the finish. The 29th carom, however, missed due to a kiss just before the cue ball would touch the third.

The Turk needed to anticipate, didn’t get an easy position, but scored under pressure. He made his second and his third point under a big pressure and then went for the match ball: a very tough shot.

Karakurt took his time, played with the maximum of reverse english and send the ball flawless through the corner for the carom on the third ball.

David Zapata, who already has an impressive honor roll and Ömer Karakurt are playing the final at 18.30 today.
