KBC Zanzibar big winner on the eigth matchday

Roland Forthomme, highest average in round eight.

LEUVEN - The level of the Belgian league this year remains extremely high. Frans van Kuijk and Henk Habraken allready excelled with high runs of 28 and 25, but weekly the averages are remarkable. This Monday evening four players came to an average of two and more. Roland Forthomme was the best of them with 2.631, Eddy Leppens played 2.272, Martin Horn 2.083 and Eddy Merckx 2.000. Peter Ceulemans, who lost to Roland Forthomme (50-31 in 19 innings) signed for a run of sixteen, the highest on the eighth matchday, on which BC Op de Meir and BC Lugo meet tonight.
KBC Zanzibar from Leuven was the big winner of the evening. The team defeated at home Mister 100 Lier with 8-0, the average for the whole team was 1.628.
Besides Forthomme on the other billiards Dave Christiani (1.470), Jimmy Mues (1.448) and Paul Stroobants (1.354) also sparkled with high scores. Peter Ceulemans reached only to 31 points against Forthomme, sixteen of them he produced in one inning.
The team of KBC Zanzibar is now one of the leaders, together with BC Geox Herentals, which team despite victories of Dion Nelin (1.724 average) and Christian Rudolph (1.219, run of 11) shared the points with K Eekloose BC. Frans de Vos excelled on billiard four for the home team with a run of ten against Geert Meylemans from Geox.
BC Deurne is the third team with eleven points in eight matches after the 8-0 victory over BC Biljart Express. The team average of  the Antwerps formation was even higher than that from Zanzibar: 1.719. Eddy Merckx beat Frans van Kuijk 50-45 in 25 innings, Jef Philipoom defeated Gerwin Valentijn (50-39 in 28), Ludo Dielis won his match with Guy van Litsenborg (42-25 in 29) and Davy van Havere beat Johan Claessen 42-20 in 25 innings.
Two French players, together with Henk Blauwblomme, grapped the victory for Kon. Kortrijkse against BC De Ploeg. Martin Horn, the only player who won for De Ploeg, defeated Ronnie Brants. Richard Bitalis (1.750 average, highest run of 11), Henk Blauwblomme and Céderic Melnytschenko leaved with the win to Kortrijk.
BC Quality Zele again could not win, now against BC Kasteeldreef. The match ended in 6-2 for Kasteeldreef, which team had in Eddy Leppens his best player. He defeated Jean Paul de Bruijn 50-36 in 22 innings. Frédéric Caudron beat Peter de Backer 50-42 in 30 innings.
The ranking on top is now: 1. BC Geox Herentals 8-11, 2. KBC Zanzibar 8-11, 3. BC Deurne 8-11, 4. Kon. Kortrijk 8-10, 5. BC Kasteeldreef 8-9, 6. Mister 100 Lier 8-9.
