Haeng Jik Kim, who defends his title, was the number one in the qualification.

GUATEMALA - The Korean Haeng Jik Kim, the Spaniard David Zapata and the Colombian Alejandro Piza have survived the preliminaries of the Junior World championship in Guatemala unbeaten. They are the leaders of the rankings after qualifying. The eight players for the quarter-finals are known now.

Two other Koreans have been seeded, Gun Whi Cho and Jun Tae Kim, also the Japanese Yusuke Mori, the Belgian Andy de Bondt and the Ecuadorian Manuel Lindao.

Three players finished in the preliminaries with an average over one: Haeng Jik Kim 1.298, David Zapata 1.197 Gun Whi Cho 1.062.

Haeng Jik Kim, David Zapata, Alejandro Piza and Gun Whi Cho were the winners of the four groups. The elimination of the Spaniard David Martinez, the Portuguese Joao Pedro Ferreira and Dutchman Jens van Dam was surprising. Most disappointing was the performance of Luis Fernando Silva, player of the homeland Guatemala. He lost all his matches and finished 0.396 average.

The matches for the quarter finals are:
Haeng Jik Kim-Manuel Lindao
Alejandro Piza-Yusuke Mori
Gun Whi Cho-Jun Tae Kim
Andy de Bondt-David Zapata.
