TRABZON - The Turkish player Erdal Ergün led the ranking after sixty matches on the first day of the World Cup in Trabzon. He made his sixty caroms in 62 innings, an average of 0967 and a highest run of seven. The Korean Ju Yeong Cheon is only the number fourteen, but he came from the strongest group on the first day.

Mehmet Goren was thrown out of the tournament with two matches of 1.619 and 1.222 average on a day with a lot of matches around 0.500 average and less. The Turk, however, had the bad luck that he had to play against two other strong players, Ju Yeong Cheon and Volkan Cimentepe. They fought a trench war match with the Korean as the winner. The three players finished in the same match points, Cheon won one set more than Goren.

Six Turkish players are leading the ranking after the first day: Erdal Ergün, Furkan Senel, Cem Tolga Cinar, Huseyin Ozen, Cimen Bulent, and Ismail Soner Ozturk. The number seven is the Greek Elefterios Kintatos.

Today some more known players are coming into the arena with ten tables, such as Soner Tas, who played a few remarkable World cups a few years ago. The Dutchman Wim van den Berg starts his tournament, just like the Portuguese Jorge Bastos and Gülşen Degener, still one of the 'leading ladies' in three-cushion.
