Frans van Kuyk, new in the team of TOVV, won his match against Jan Arnouts.

AMSTERDAM - Barry van Beers excelled with a run of fifteen, Jens Eggers defeated Murat Naci Coklu and Eddy Merckx lost his match against Kurt Ceulemans after his fantastic world record on Saturday. Those were the most striking facts on the third day of the Dutch league.

Three leaders remained unbeaten, only DBL Holland Mineraal wasted one point. The team played a draw in the away match against Hatrans Twente, thanks to the surprising win of Jens Eggers against Murat Naci Coklu (50-40 in 38 innings).

The teams of Frans Bevers, A1 Biljarts en Snellen Recycling won all three 6-2. Barry van Beers' victory in his duel with John Tyssens was excellent. Tijssens started with seven misses, Barry van Beers made the highest run of the day with fifteen, saw his opponent come back to 38-37, but then won the match 50-42 in 29. Roland Forthomme defeated in the match of the two leaders Jef Philipoom 50-35 in 31 innings.

Eddy Merckx apparently - and understandably - had celebrated his world match in Germany on Saturday a little too long. The match for TOVV.nl/MCR, one day later against Kurt Ceulemans, was no shadow of the record match (50 points in 6). Merckx was beaten by Kurt Ceulemans 50-47 in 41 innings.

His team won 5-3 and stays on top. Frans van Kuyk showed himself stronger than Jan Arnouts in 32 innings with a highest break of ten, Dave Christiani played a draw against Frank Martens and Richard Bitalis was on his best, he won 50-32 in 23 innings in a great match against Ad Broeders. That marked an average of 2.173 for the Frenchman.

Frans Bevers played the away match against Berendhaus/Horeca slightly weakened: the team missed Frédéric Caudron and the sick Peter de Backer. Eddy Leppens, the leader of the team, defeated Thorsten Frings, Stefan Hetzel played for Berendhaus a great match and won against Jean Paul de Bruijn 50-45 in 30 innings, but Glenn Hofman (50-39 in 49) and Patrick Vasseur (50-45 against Wim Vredeveldt, who maded twenty misses in a row), gained the win for the leader in the ranking.

A1 Biljarts joined the leaders thanks to the winning match against De Hazelaar 6-2. Best man of the team was Raimond Burgman with 50 points in 29. Michael Nilsson defeated Wesley de Jaeger 50-47, Allan Jensen was much too strong for Addie Wienk, who had a complete offday with 18 points in 37.
