Xavier Le Roy and Guillaume Déventec, the two final players

DOUAI - Xavier Le Roy has won the first French national tournament in one cushion. In the final, he defeated Grégory Le Deventec 120-48 in six innings, thanks in part to a run of 71. The winner, who is a two-time French champion, in 2017 and 2019, and winner of five national events, had some tough opponents. Grégory Le Deventec made a 100 in 3 innings, 120 in 8 in the semi-final) and Bernard Villiers made 100 in 2 innings with a run of 100 in the group stage). They alle played remarkable matches in the previous rounds.

Xavier Le Roy was not impressed by the two players he defeated. He won in the semi-final against Bernard Villiers in a 3-hour match (120-111 in 17 innings) and then came up trumps in the final against Grégory Le Deventec in his match with 20 average. The final average of Le Roy was 7.37.

Grégory Le Deventec recorded the best overall average with 10.84. He excelled in the compact game and became the winner in the group stage with 13.33 on average. In addition, he played one game of 33.33 (100 points in 3 innings)

Bernard Villiers (average 7.74) produced a maximum run of 100 in the 2nd round against Johan Petit.

The organising club of Douai with its president Guillaume Loiseau had the good idea to install cameras at the start of the season. Thanks to this cooperation, the spectators could admire an exceptional run from start to finish.

Pascal Dessaint (average 6.46), a club player, managed to reach the last four with the three main players of French one cushion. That surely is a great achievement for the Douaisian who played a strong quarter-final against Johann Girard with 15.00 on average. He had beaten Willy Gérimont before in his group.

Jordan Aubert from Mussipont caused a surprise in the group stage by beating Bernard Villiers 100-95 in 16 innings (best run 56) and also by beating Claude Bauduin in the qualification 80-69 in 8 innings (run 38). There was also a good performance for Franck Zahner (Florange) in the qualification: 80 in 6 (run 54).

Jean-François Florent (5th), Johann Girard (6th), Jacky Justice (7th), who beat Alain Remond in the group stage, and Fabio Vendittelli (8th), were the four group winners of the main tournament who were defeated in the quarter finals.

Next national tournament in Courbevoie in January 2022.
