Luis Aveiga beats Colombians in his own country

Luis Aveiga won de Grand Prix Panamericano in een finale tegen Alexander Salazar.

The Ecuadorian player Luis Aveiga is the winner of the Grand Prix Panamericano, which was organized in Quito. The Colombians ended up with four players in the top five, but the victory was for Aveiga. The flamboyant player from Ecuador showed himself very strong in the Copa ciudad de Quito by beatin Alexander Salazar from Colombia in the final 40-26 in 34 innings. Forty players were at the start of the tournament, among them almost all the top players of South America.

The mastery of Luis Aveiga was unquestioned. The Ecuadorian played two matches on a world level. He won in the quarterfinals with 1,500 average and defeated in the eighth finals Carlos Villegas 30-8 in eleven moves: an average of 2.727.

The Colombians glittered in the shadow of the winner. Alexander Salazar had the same number of matchpoints, but remained below the average of Aveiga. The Ecuadorian throughout the tournament ended with 1.332, Salazar with 1.262. Robinson Morales was third with 1,290, Fernando Diaz fourth with 1.277, Alejandro Piza fifth with 1,000.

Further in the top ten were: 6 Miguel Canton (Venezuela) 1.113, 7 Harry Reyez Pena (Colombia) 1.207, 8 Carloman Ortiz (Colombia) 0.988, 9 Javier Teran (Ecuador) 1.363, 1910 Andres Naranjo (Colombia) 1.271.
