Luis Aveiga best of eight finalists in Peru

Luis Aveiga, leader in the ranking after qualifications

TRUJILLO - At the 17th Bolivarian Games, which are held in Trujillo (Libertad, Peru) from 16 to 30 November, the billiards disciplines have start off. The famous event is organized with eleven Latin American countries in 57 sports disciplines. Three cushion is one of them.

Luis Aveiga from Ecuador leads the ranking after one day in three cushion with 1.429 average ahead of Guido Saco, Merlín Romero and Marco Sobarzo. Aveiga played his best match in the group stage against Miguel Canton from Venezuela, 30 points in 16 innings, averaging 1.875. Previously, he defeated Juan Carlos Cartagena (Bolivia) 30-17 in 26 innings.

Henry Diaz (Colombia), Javier Teran (Ecuador) and the local favorite Guido Saco battled in Group A for a place in the quarterfinals.

Henry Diaz defeated Saco 30-19 in 17 innings, but Saco revovered with a win over Javier Teran 30-22 in 18 innings. Teran was eliminated, Saco finished first in this group (1.400) ahead of Diaz 1.308.

Merlín Romero and Luis Martinez competed in Group B with success. Romero qualified third for the quarterfinals with 1.132 average. In the duel for the lead in the group Romero won 30-25 in 22 vs Martinez.

Ramon Rodriguez, the musical virtuoso, who had a two year stop in billiards and makes his come-back, started in Group C with one of the worst games of his career: 0564 average.

Still he managed to qualify in his group together with Marco Sobarzo. Hugo Sánchez, one of the local favorites, was eliminated.

Rodriguez repared miraculously after his bad start in the match he had to win for qualification. The Peruvian defeated Marco Sobarzo 30 in 23 innings.
