MODICA - The Italian team from Bolzano, with Marco Zanetti as the undisputed star player, has won the Italian team championship in Modica. The title holder Biglia was outplayed by Sporting Club A in the semifinals. The line-up of the winning team: Marco Zanetti, Fabio Gaiotti, Sebastiano Ruocco and Giorgio Mancini.
Marco Zanetti played a grandiose series of six matches in the tournament. Mainly in the semifinal, he performed on an extraordinary level. The Italian equaled the world record match average over 40 points held by Frédéric Caudron. The Belgian recorded two matches over 40 points in six innings. Marco Zanetti now defeated Gabriele Fasciana 40-1 in 6 (6.667 average).
The scores in that match: 9-18-0-4-6-3.
And not only in that match the leader of the winning team was outstanding. In the quarterfinals against Domenico Marra Zanetti, he reached the finish in 9 innings: 40-5 (4.444 average).
Marco commented later: ,,In fact, I liked the quality in the organization, it was nice to stay with many friends. I finally could find the right focus and the full harmony: the eyes, the arm and my cue. What I never felt claerly in the past mounths.''
In the final against Domenico Mingiardi, player from Sporting Club A, Zanetti needed twenty innings for the win. And in the matches in the qualification, Zanetti ran out in 17, 24 and 30 innings, which gave him a general average of 2.264.
The Bolzano foursome won three out of four matches in the final against Sporting Club A. In the semifinal Green Planet was defeated 6-2.
