Marco Zanetti wins his 20th title in Italy

CAGLIARI - Marco Zanetti has won in Cagliari his twentieth Italian title in three cushion in a final against Emilio Sciacca. The world's top player ended with an average of 1.849. He prevailed in the final against Sciacca 40-29 in 23 innings.

The title afforded Zanetti thirty valuable points for the world ranking. That brings his total to 234 points. Zanetti passed Tayfun Tasdemir and climbs to the eleventh place.

The championship in Cagliari was played with forty participants, who had to play to forty caroms. Antonio Oddo, ten times champion, was killed in the quarterfinals of the tournament, just like Georgio Mancini, another known player.

Marco Zanetti won​his first title in Italy already in 1978 in Gragnano with 0.738 average. The first championship was held in 1967. Giuseppe Tomsich was the winner with 0.524 average. Then there was the era of Antonio Oddo, followed by a period of Marco Zanetti, who also won the last five editions.

Zanetti defeated on his way to the final in the knockout stage Roberto Saba 40-13, Daniele Di Biasi 40-12 and in the semifinals Fabrizio Cortese 40-19.
Emilio Sciacca won in the eighth finals against Miguel Di Tacchio, in the quarterfinals he beat Diego Guccione and in the semifinals Sebastiano Ruocco.

Zanetti had a general average of 1.849, Sciacca 1.088, Ruocco 0.913 and Cortese 0.854.
