HERTEN - Martin Horn has won the German Masters three cushion for the second time in a row. The best German player underlined his supremacy by winning the final against Johann Schirmbrand, who could also look back to an excellent tournament The podium was completed by 56-year old Klaus Bosel, the finalist last year, and Stefan Galla.
The final match was a demonstration of high class and tension, making three cushion such a beautiful discipline. Horn led 30-18 after twelve innings, Schirmbrand could almost close the gap to 30-25. But then, Horn attacked again irresistible with runs of eleven and four to 45-27 in 15.
It took until the 22nd inning until Horn made his last points and could be crowned as German Master for the second time.
Martin Horn visibly enjoyed the victory and was justly rewarded with applause from the audience. The season in Germany is now over for him. Horn started the year with the sensational news that he stopped playing World Cups. The reactions were very different: the billiards world was amazed, surprised and understanding after he launched his decision.
Martin Horn had a turbulent season with many good matches and performances. He played in Germany, Austria, France and Belgium, he disappointed with a third place in the German championship and led Germany with Stefan Galla at the World team championship in Viersen to the bronze medal.
The German Masters finished with 1.180 average over 31 matches. The level was excellent: the German tournament can certainly measure up to the level in the Netherlands and Belgium.
The four best players reached the semifinals: Martin Horn defeated Klaus Bosel, Johann Schirmbrand outplayed Stefan Galla.
The second German Masters has been closed, it was a great success again with many high class encounters, highlights and exciting matches. And moreover an enthusiastic audience, both in the billiard room and where Kozoom brought the matches live to the members.
