HELSINGBORG - Michael Nilsson is the new three cushion champion in Sweden. He defeated Torbjörn Blomdahl in te final 3-1 and took over the title from the world's number two.
The final match was a gruelling battle: Michael Nilsson took the first set 15-12 (6), Torbjörn Blomdahl the second 15-6 (5) and Nilsson the decisive sets 15-6 (7) and the last 15-14 in 6 innings.
The averages of both players were impressive: Nisson scored 2.217, Blomdahl 2.136.
41-year old Michael Nilsson came to the final by a victoryu over Nalle Olsson, in which match he lost first two sets 15-8, 15-6, but then repared with 15-13, 15-9, 15-13. Torbjörn Blomdahl at the other table beat David Pennör in straight sets 15-8, 15-14, 15-10 (1.500 average).
Nalle Olsson won the match for the bronze medal: he beat David Pennör 2-1.
