PRAGUE - The predicted final between Vitkov Prague and Bochum, in the European Cup for classic teams, is already scheduled for an earlier session and is not the match for gold. The French team of Ronchin was the killjoy for the Germans, who had their absolute top player in Sam van Etten. The two Germans for Bochum in the final group match were defeated by Ronchin (4-2) and thereby meet the reigning champion Vitkov Prague in the semi-finals. For the other final spot, the French teams Soissons and Ronchin meet.

That was the surprising outcome of the last session, in which Vitkov Prague demonstrated its role of favourite, first with a win over Soissons 4-2 and then the other French team in this group, the underdog Ecully, 6-0.

Eddy Leppens was the superior balk-line player in the champions team with matches in 47/2 in two and three innings and runs of 211 and 218. Dick Jaspers remained unbeaten in one cushion against Alain Remond and Xavier Le Roy. The scores, 120-13 in four and 120 -92 in seven innings and a highest run of 95. Only Marek Faus suffered a loss against the Spaniard Esteve Mata in an exciting match, 200-184 in 3. in Mata was the best man for Soissons with another victory over Fabio Venditelli in 8.

The B group was marked by a fascinating final after Chartres and Ronchin first played a draw and then Bochum bested Chartres 4-2. Sam van Etten won the match 47/2 in one inning against Willy Gérimont (250-0), Thomas Nockemann also won from the break-off against Xavier Gretillat: 200-0 in 1. The French one cushion player Jacky Justice beat Ludger Havlik 120- 88 to 13.

The decisive match for the group win first seemed put the Germans in the spotlights by a win of Sam van Etten, whow showed his high class on the balk-lines against Brahim Djoubri 250-88 in 2 (runs 241 and 9). But the match then went upside down. Bernard Villiers took a lead in one cushion (112-57 in seven) and finished in the: 120-67. Jean Francois Florent faced a backlog in 71/2 against Thomas Nockemann (162-119), but had the better finish with 81 in the third. The group win therefore went to Ronchin.

The matches in the semi-finals:
9.30: Vitkov Prague-Bochum
11.30: Ronchin-Soissons.

Sam van Etten, 250 points 47/2 in 1 and 2 innings
