Navarette and Cruz share the main prize

CHICAGO - Paul Navarette and Lupe Cruz have won the USBA Tour B tournament in Chicago, Illinois. Both players finished with the same match points in the final group with six wins and one loss. They should have played a match to determine the winner, but they felt tired and decided to share the prize money, which was 2000 dollars for the winner, 1500 for the number two.

The tournament was played in Chris's Billiards with 28 players in the preliminaries. Thereafter, three groups of six were formed, the two winners qualified for the final round.

Brian Haff was the unbeaten winner in Group A before Paul Navarette, George Pawelski finished as first in Group B before Lupe Cruz and David Camarena remained unbeaten in Group C before Thang Le. The final group was expanded by lottery with Elmi Faek and Jim Shovak.

Lupe Cruz lost one of his seven games in the final group against George Pawelski. Paul Navarette lost only against Lupe Cruz so that both players ended with the same match points. George Pawelski lost two games (against Navarette and Jim Shovak) and finished third on the podium.

The winner earned 30 ranking points, the numbers two and three 18 and 15.

The final ranking: 1 Lupe Cruz, 6 points, 168 caroms and Paul Navarette 6-163, 3 George Pawelski 10-156, 4 Brian Haff 8-152, 6-159 5 David Camarena, 6 Thang Le, 7 Jim Shovak, 8 Elmi Taek.
