The new Pan Amercian junior champion Nelson Caro

QUILMES - The 19-Colombian Nelson Caro is the new Pan American junior champion in three cushion. He won the championship played in Quilmes, Argentina, in the final against Mauro Salvador from Argentina: 25-15 in 25 innings. Four players from Peru finished in the best eight.

Nelson Caro recorded 0.899 of average which made him the best of the tournament. The highest run was made by Mauro Salvador with 9.

Kozoom reporter Vandenver Reina had a short interview with the winner.

Kozoom/Vandenver Reina: How old are you and where do you live?
Nelson Caro: I'm 19 years old and live in Cajamarca, Tolima.

Kozoom/VR: What does it mean for you to become Pan American champion?
NC: I'm very happy, of course, because I first took the title in Argentina and this Pan American title is even more important to me.

Kozoom/VR: What were the most important successes in your career so far?
NC: I won a silver medal in Argentina and also in a tournament in Lima. But this is a highlight for me. It motivates me to continue working and try to perform internationally.

Kozoom/VR: Who were your trainers and coaches?
NC: Gildardo Laverde was my first trainer. Two years ago, Henry Samuel Diaz teached me more of the game with his broad knowledge and experience.

Kozoom/VR: How do you look back at the tournament.
NC: I began to believe in myself and played with a lot of confidence in the final stage. I beat Luis Carrasco in the quarterfinals, Brian Peralta from Peru in the semi-final and then had to beat Mauro Salvador in the final. He defeated Cristian Sánchez in de semi-final with a run of nine.

Kozoom/VR: Then you faced the battle for the gold medal.
NC: I asked God to find the power to beat Mauro and win the gold. He is a strong player and was the favourite because he played a home match. But luckily I won, I'm so happy. I dedicate the gold medal to my country and the city where I was born. A wonderful dream has come true.
